Setup Guide

Build and host a site in ChatGPT Work

ChatGPT can now build a live site for you and host it, so you get a real link to share. No hosting setup, no developer. Here are the first three things to build, plus how to put your own domain on it.

What's new here? Getting AI to write code isn't new. What's new is a feature called Sites, inside ChatGPT's Work mode, that builds the thing and puts it live for you, on a real public link you can send to anyone today. Building was never the hard part. Getting it online and shareable was. That just went away.

What you can build
A client dashboard
The few numbers that matter, on one page
A booking / enquiry page
Explain the offer, one clear button
A client portal
Files, links and next steps in one place
A shareable link
Live, hosted, ready to send
Before you start: You need a paid ChatGPT plan (ChatGPT Sites, inside Work mode, launched for paid subscribers). Sign in at chatgpt.com. By default your site lives on a ChatGPT-hosted link (with OpenAI's domain in it), which you can swap for your own domain (Step 3).
1

Pick one and describe it

Open ChatGPT Work and paste one of these. It builds a live page and gives you a link.

A simple dashboard
Build me a clean, one-page dashboard that shows [the 3 or 4 numbers I care about]. Make it look professional, easy to read on a phone, and give me a shareable link.
A booking / enquiry page
Build me a simple booking page for [what you do]. Explain [the offer] in a few lines, with a clear button to [book a call / send an enquiry]. Clean and mobile-friendly, then host it.
A client portal
Build me a private page I can send to a client that holds [their files / links / next steps] in one tidy place. Simple, professional, shareable link.
2

Share the link

Once it's built, ChatGPT hosts it and gives you the link. Send that straight to your client or team. That's it, it's live. No hosting to set up, no files to upload.

3

Put your own domain on it

The default link has OpenAI's name in it. For real client work, use your own domain so it reads portal.yourbusiness.com:

  • You need to already own a domain (GoDaddy, Namecheap, wherever). ChatGPT doesn't sell you one.
  • In the site's settings, choose Add domain and type the domain or subdomain you want.
  • It gives you a couple of DNS records. Copy them into your domain provider's settings.
  • Wait a few minutes, refresh, and your site loads on your own address.
Heads up: it's in beta, so there are usage limits on storage and traffic. On Enterprise workspaces, public sharing is off by default (an admin has to switch it on) and custom domains aren't available yet, so this "send anyone a link" flow works best on Plus, Pro or Business. Perfect for portals, dashboards and prototypes. Not a high-traffic public site replacement just yet.
