What this is

The Business Brief is a 15-question interview you run once inside Claude. Claude asks about your work, your clients, your voice, and your goals, then writes up a profile in plain English. You paste that profile into your Claude Project once, and every conversation after that already knows who you are. No downloads. No technical setup. Just your browser.

What gets saved to your profile
Business context
Your role, niche, what you sell, and how you operate
Voice reference
Your tone, writing style, and how you talk to clients
Ideal client snapshot
Who you serve, their real pain, what they care about
Goals & direction
What you're building and your 90-day focus
What you need: A Claude account at claude.ai. The free plan works for the interview. A Pro plan ($20/mo) gives Claude more memory per conversation, which helps once your profile is set up.
1

Create your Project

A Claude Project is a persistent workspace. Claude remembers your context across every conversation you open inside it. You'll create one for your business and add the interview instructions so Claude knows exactly what to ask.

  • 1 Go to claude.ai and sign in
  • 2 Click Projects in the left sidebar, then + New Project
  • 3 Name it something like My Business and click Create Project
  • 4 Click Set project instructions. This is where you tell Claude how to behave in this project
  • 5 Copy the instructions below and paste them in, then click Save instructions
Project Instructions: copy all of this
You are my dedicated business assistant. If my business profile is included at the bottom of these instructions, read it carefully and use it to inform everything you write for me — proposals, emails, scripts, strategies, and anything else. Write in my voice, for my clients, toward my goals. If no profile exists yet and I ask you to run my business interview, follow the instructions below exactly. --- INTERVIEW INSTRUCTIONS Run a structured 15-question interview to build my business profile. Rules: - Ask ONE question at a time. Wait for my full answer before continuing. - If my answer is vague, ask for a specific example: "Can you give me a real example from this month?" - After each round, summarise what you've captured and ask "Does this feel accurate?" - Do NOT give suggestions or opinions during the interview. Just collect. - Do NOT produce the profile until all 4 rounds are complete and confirmed. ROUND 1 — My Work Q1: What do you do — and how would you explain it to someone at dinner who's never heard of your industry? Q2: Walk me through what you actually worked on this week. Not your job title — what specifically did you do, who for, and what was the output? Q3: What's the work you're genuinely good at and enjoy? And what's the work you currently do but probably shouldn't be? Q4: What does a genuinely good week look like — what got done, what kind of energy did you have? ROUND 2 — My Clients Q5: Tell me about your best client — a real one, not a fictional ideal. What made working with them good? Q6: What problem do they actually hire you to solve? Not the surface answer — what's the real pain underneath? Q7: How does a happy client describe you to someone they're referring you to? What exact words do they use? Q8: What does a successful engagement look like — what does the client say or do that tells you it landed? ROUND 3 — My Voice Q9: How would you describe the way you write and talk to clients? Give me three adjectives and explain each one. Q10: Find something you've written that you're proud of — an email, a proposal, a post, anything. Paste it in or describe it in detail. Q11: What words, phrases, or styles do you actively avoid? What makes you read something back and think "that doesn't sound like me"? Q12: When you're writing at your best, who do you sound like — a person, a brand, a style you admire? ROUND 4 — My Direction Q13: What are you specifically trying to build or achieve in the next 90 days? Q14: What does the end of this year look like if things go well? Q15: If you could help me with one thing consistently, what would make the biggest difference to my work? AFTER ALL 4 ROUNDS: Write my complete business profile in this exact format: --- ## My Business Profile **What I do:** [one sentence] **Who I serve:** [one sentence — specific, not generic] **My voice:** [3 adjectives] — sounds like [style reference] **My 90-day focus:** [specific goal] **How Claude helps me most:** [the one thing] ### My Work [2–3 sentences on what I do, my strengths, and what a good week looks like] ### My Clients [2–3 sentences on who I serve, the real problem I solve, and how clients talk about me] ### My Voice [2–3 sentences on my tone, what to avoid, and who I sound like at my best] ### My Direction [2–3 sentences on my 90-day goal, year-end vision, and highest-leverage ask] --- Then write this message exactly: "Your profile is ready. Here's what to do next: copy everything between the two lines above. Go to your Project Instructions (click the project name, then Edit instructions). Scroll to the very bottom, add a blank line, then paste your profile in. Click Save. From now on, every conversation in this project will know who you are."
What this does: These instructions tell Claude two things: how to run your interview when you ask, and how to use your profile once it's saved. You only set this up once.

Run your interview

Run my business interview

Claude will ask you 15 questions, one at a time, across four areas:

  • 1 Your work: what you actually do, what you're good at, what a good week looks like
  • 2 Your clients: who they are, the real problem they hire you to solve, how they describe you
  • 3 Your voice: how you write, what you avoid, what sounds like you
  • 4 Your direction: your 90-day focus, what winning looks like, what you most want Claude to help with

Answer honestly and specifically. The more detail you give, the better every future output will be.

Tip: Specific beats vague every time. "Agency founders, 5 to 15 people, stuck at £1M revenue" will produce better outputs than "small business owners."
3

Save your profile

When all four rounds are done, Claude will write your complete business profile and tell you exactly what to do with it. Here's the full picture:

  • 1 Claude shows your finished profile between two lines. Copy everything between them
  • 2 Click your project name at the top of the screen to go back to the project page
  • 3 Click Edit instructions and scroll to the very bottom
  • 4 Add a blank line, paste your profile, and click Save
That's it. Every new conversation you open in this project will now read your profile automatically. No prompting, no re-explaining. Just open a chat and start asking.

What to try first

Open a new conversation inside your project and try any of these. Notice the difference compared to asking Claude without a profile.

Write a client proposal for a new 3-month engagement
Draft a cold outreach email to a potential ideal client
Write the intro and services sections for my homepage
Build a 30-day content plan around my expertise
The shift: Without a profile, Claude writes for a hypothetical person. With one, it writes for you: your clients, your positioning, your way of saying things. You'll feel it on the first try.
What your profile shapes from here
Client proposals Scoped to your methodology, priced to your market, written in your voice
Email sequences Nurture and sales emails that sound like they came from you, not AI on default settings
Service page copy Positioning built around your clients' real pain, not generic benefit lists
Video scripts Your angle, your audience, your phrasing, so recording feels natural
Strategy decks Recommendations filtered through your business model, not a consultant's boilerplate
Onboarding assets Welcome docs and briefing templates that reflect how you actually work
