Setup Guide

Design anything with Claude.
Six prompts. Six real deliverables.

Claude Design turns a sentence into a slide deck, a client proposal, a landing page, or a branded email, in your colours, exportable to the tools you already use. This guide shows you how to set it up, plus six battle-tested prompts to try first.

What Claude Design actually is

A new product from Anthropic Labs (launched April 17, 2026) that generates polished visual work from prompts: slide decks, interactive prototypes, marketing graphics, web and app UIs. It builds a design system from your brand files so every output uses your colours, fonts, and components automatically. Exports to Canva, PowerPoint, PDF, HTML, or straight to Claude Code for developer handoff. Currently in research preview.

Before you start: Claude Design is in research preview and only available on Claude Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise plans. If you're on the free plan, sign up for Pro at claude.ai/pricing ($20/month). Claude Design has its own weekly usage limit. It does not count against your chat quota.
1

Open Claude Design

Go to claude.ai/design and sign in with your Claude account.

URL
https://claude.ai/design

You'll land on a chat-style interface with three output tags at the bottom: Hi-fi design, Interactive prototype, and Design System. Pick the one that matches what you want to generate, usually Hi-fi design for a single asset, Interactive prototype for anything scrollable or clickable.

Tip: The first time you open it, Claude offers to build a design system from your codebase or brand files. Skip for now. You can run your first prompt without it and see the raw output. Upload your brand later (Step 2) to make every future design use your colours and fonts automatically.
2

Upload your brand (optional, but worth it)

If you want every design to use your colours, fonts, and logo without re-specifying them every time, drop your brand assets into the chat once. Claude will build a reusable design system from them.

What to upload:

  • Logo file (PNG, SVG, or PDF)
  • Brand guidelines doc (PDF or DOCX)
  • Screenshots of your existing site or app
  • Hex codes for your primary and accent colours

You can also point Claude at a live URL using its web capture tool to pull real elements from your existing site so generated work looks like the real product.

No brand yet? Skip this. Claude will invent a reasonable palette and typography from your prompt. You can always regenerate once you have a style you like.
3

Paste a prompt and generate

Copy any of the six prompts below into the chat. Hit enter. Claude uses Opus 4.7 to draft the design, usually under a minute for a single asset, longer for interactive prototypes.

The prompts below are verbose on purpose. Claude Design gets better output when you name the business, describe the sections, specify the colours, and tell it the tone. Short prompts give generic output. Longer prompts give brand-on-point work.

Rule of thumb: Name the business. Describe the sections. Specify the colours. State the feel. The prompts below follow this pattern. Use them as templates for your own.
4

Refine inline, then export

Claude Design has three ways to edit without retyping the prompt:

1
Inline comments
Click any element and leave a comment: "make this bigger", "swap this colour for gold"
2
Direct text edits
Click any text and type. Changes propagate to similar elements if you ask.
3
Adjustment knobs
Live sliders for spacing, contrast, and layout density, see changes in real time

When it's ready, export:

  • Slide decks: export to PowerPoint (.pptx) or send to Canva
  • Static graphics: export as PDF
  • Interactive prototypes: share internal URL or export as standalone HTML
  • Everything else: download as a .zip or hand off to Claude Code (local or Claude Code Web)

Six prompts to try first

These are the exact prompts I used to generate the six deliverables in the preview above. Each one is long on purpose: naming the business, describing sections, specifying colours, and stating the feel gets Claude Design to produce brand-appropriate work instead of generic slop. Swap the business names and details for your own and run them.

1. Full brand kit
Hi-fi design
Logo (icon + wordmark), 5-colour palette, font pairing, business card mockup, all on a brand guidelines sheet.
Prompt
Create a full brand kit for a local coffee shop called Grounds & Co. Include: a primary logo with an icon and wordmark, a 5-color palette (espresso brown, cream, forest green, warm orange, off-white), a font pairing, and a business card mockup front and back. Lay it all out on a clean dark background like a brand guidelines sheet.
2. Interactive client proposal
Interactive prototype
A scrollable multi-page proposal with cover, scope, pricing, testimonials, and signature flow, navigable like a real microsite.
Prompt
Build an interactive multi-page client proposal for a home renovation contractor called Summit Build Co. Make it clickable and navigable like a microsite — smooth scroll between sections with a fixed top navigation bar. Section 1 — Cover: full-bleed hero with a project photo placeholder, client name, project title, date, and a "Jump to Pricing" anchor button. Section 2 — Scope of Work: three project phases in a timeline layout, each with an icon, phase name, deliverables list, and estimated duration. Section 3 — Investment: a clean pricing table with line items, quantities, unit costs, subtotals, and a bold total at the bottom. Include an "Accept This Proposal" button that glows green on hover. Section 4 — Why Us: three trust badges (Licensed & Insured, 15 Years Experience, 300+ Projects Completed), two client testimonials with star ratings and photo placeholders, and a short founder bio with headshot placeholder. Section 5 — Next Steps: three numbered steps, a digital signature field placeholder, and a "Schedule Your Kickoff Call" button. Color palette: deep charcoal, warm cream, and a burnt orange accent. Premium, modern, full-bleed section backgrounds.
3. Branded HTML email template
Hi-fi design
Full-width header, service tiles, seasonal promo banner, complete footer. Looks like a real Mailchimp campaign, not a template.
Prompt
Design a branded HTML email template for a local landscaping company called Greenfield Co. Full-width dark forest green header with a large hero image placeholder and white headline text. Below the hero: three service tiles in a row — Lawn Care, Tree Trimming, Seasonal Cleanup — each with a simple icon, two-line description, and a "Book Now" button. Then a bold seasonal promotion banner in warm amber. Footer with phone number, address, social icons, and an unsubscribe link. Warm, trustworthy, not generic. Make it look like a real Mailchimp campaign, not a template.
4. Instagram post set
Hi-fi design
Three 1080x1080 posts (before/after, review card, promo) displayed side by side as a content calendar preview.
Prompt
Design a set of 3 Instagram posts for a home cleaning service called Sparkle Clean. White background, mint green accents, soft drop shadows, clean sans-serif typography. Post 1: a split "Before / After" layout with bold labels and a "$149 Deep Clean" badge in the corner. Post 2: a 5-star review card with the customer quote in large type and a circular headshot placeholder. Post 3: a "Book This Week" promo with a bold limited-time offer and a bright green CTA button. Display all three at 1080x1080, side by side on a soft grey background like a content calendar preview.
5. iOS app design
Hi-fi design
Three app screens side by side: booking flow for a luxury service brand.
Prompt
Design an iOS app for a luxury hair salon called Studio Eight. Soft cream and black palette. Show three screens side by side: a stylist selection screen with profile cards, a booking calendar, and an appointment confirmation screen. Clean, minimal, premium feel.
6. Restaurant homepage
Hi-fi design
Full-width hero, large "Reserve a Table" CTA, signature dishes grid. Moody, photographic feel.
Prompt
Design a homepage for a local Italian restaurant called Rosso. Deep burgundy background, cream text, gold accents. Full-width hero with a moody candle-lit dinner photo placeholder, a large "Reserve a Table" button centered on screen, and three signature dishes shown below with names and prices.
What I keep using this for: one-off client proposals I'd normally spend 2 hours styling, deck covers for the talks I actually deliver, and Instagram post templates that don't look like every other template. The design system feature is the sleeper. Once it has your brand, every follow-up prompt is on-brand without you asking.
